Lindsey Graham’s thirst for war is a running joke in Congress.
Even Graham’s allies in the establishment recoil at how eager Graham is to send Americans off into combat.
Graham’s worst instincts were on display in a Fox News interview where Graham delighted in the idea of President Trump ordering ground troops in Iran.
Grahm even went so far as to plead with Trump to give the order for an invasion of Iran to seize Kharg Island, home to 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports, by going so far as to claim it would be another “Iwo Jima.”
“I trust DOD [Department of Defense]. We have two Marine expeditionary units sailing to this island. We did Iwo Jima. We can do this. The Marines—my money is always on the Marines,” Graham declared.
Iwo Jima stands as a great American military victory.
But 7,000 Americans died in the battle, which took place from February 19 to March 26, 1945, and 20,000 more soldiers were injured.
Conservatives blasted Graham for prodding Trump to escalate the war and floating the idea of tens of thousands of American casualties.
Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna served in the Air Force and tore into Graham for treating troops like action figure cannon fodder.
“I am deeply upset at the lack of respect for life Senator Lindsey Graham is displaying when talking about our troops. He is acting as if they are expendable cattle. This is unacceptable and dark. There were over 26,000 American casualties at Iwo Jima,” Luna wrote on X.
Other conservatives joined in pummeling Graham.
“We lost 7000 Marines and 20,000 were wounded,” Tennessee Congressman Tim Burchett posted to X.
“Lady Graham is drunk on war and power. He will send your kids to die so he can line his pockets with money. South Carolina is done with it. June 9th is liberation day,” Paul Dans, one of Graham’s primary opponents, exclaimed.
“Lindsey Graham is a psychotic neocon who invokes Iwo Jima and is willing to send US Marines in to be slaughtered in Iran instead of working for America to get Homeland Security funded so TSA, ICE, and BPA get paid. South Carolina, please vote him out!!!” former Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene posted.
