Chuck Schumer barely had time to toast the Democrat takeover before his own side started sharpening the guillotine.
The progressive mob wants him gone, but it still needs somebody famous to deliver the message.
And Jon Stewart just borrowed one move from the Hollywood playbook that toppled Joe Biden.
The Comedian Who Wants to Run the Democrat Personnel Office
Democrats won control of Congress. The Left’s first order of business has nothing to do with grocery bills.
It’s a purge.
Jon Stewart made that plain on a recent episode of his podcast, The Weekly Show. During the listener segment that closes out each episode, one fan asked, tongue planted firmly in cheek, whether George Clooney ought to write another op-ed. This time the target would be Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
Stewart didn’t laugh it off. He ran with it.
“By the way, that’s job one of this opportunity. Job one of this opportunity is to tear down the obstacles and old way of thinking that got us into this mess,” Stewart said.
Look at what sits at the top of his to-do list. Not prices. Not the kitchen table. The org chart.
Then Stewart went after the way Democrats hand out power. “And one of the first things you need to do is remove that system of seniority from Democratic politics. It is a ******** system and it needs to go,” he said.
And he saved his sharpest jab for the man who just led his party back into the majority. “Chuck Schumer fought tooth and nail against half of these ******* people! And even if he didn’t, he does not understand the urgency of the moment and what the future demands. I truly believe that,” Stewart said.
The show’s social media account packaged the clip with a wink: “George Clooney, we’ve got another op-ed for you.”
Cute. It also gives away how the Democrat Party actually picks its leaders. Voters don’t do it. Famous people with big platforms do.
Hollywood Already Ran This Con Once
Go back to June 2024. Clooney co-hosted a star-studded Los Angeles fundraiser for Joe Biden with Barack Obama, Julia Roberts, and Barbra Streisand on hand. The Biden campaign bragged that the night raked in $28 million, a record haul for a Democrat.
A couple of weeks later, Biden melted down on a debate stage in front of the entire country.
On July 10, 2024, Clooney published a New York Times op-ed that opened with “I love Joe Biden” and finished by telling his friend to get out of the race. In the same piece, Clooney admitted the Biden he saw at his own fundraiser was a diminished version of the man he once knew.
Sit with that timeline for a minute. Clooney saw it up close. He collected the checks anyway. He only spoke up after millions of debate viewers saw the same thing and the cover-up couldn’t survive another news cycle.
That isn’t courage. That’s a man bailing off a sinking ship and calling it a rescue mission.
But the op-ed worked. Biden quit. Democrats then crowned Kamala Harris without a single primary voter weighing in.
And Stewart himself poked fun at Biden’s age when he returned to The Daily Show in early 2024, which drew plenty of grumbling from liberals at the time. So a comedian could see what White House aides, Democrat leaders, and their media allies swore wasn’t there. That should bury the “nobody knew” excuse for good.
The Activist Left Already Handed Out the Marching Orders
Stewart isn’t freelancing. He’s singing harmony with the activist Left.
The day after the election, Indivisible blasted out posts urging Senate Democrats to dump Schumer, sneering that his approval rating sits below President Trump’s. Our Revolution, the outfit that grew out of Bernie Sanders’ 2016 campaign, joined the pile-on.
US Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), a Medicare for All supporter, told Bloomberg that no senator should commit to any leader without promises on a bold agenda, and he dismissed incrementalism out of hand. “We need commitments,” Van Hollen said.
Commitments to what, exactly? Nobody in that crowd is asking for lower spending.
Several incoming senators, including Adam Hamilton of Kansas, Troy Jackson of Maine, Juliana Stratton of Illinois, and Peggy Flanagan of Minnesota, have said they won’t back Schumer. Months earlier, US Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) called for a “new generation” of leaders across the party.
Schumer, for his part, insists he’ll keep the job when the caucus votes behind closed doors.
Somewhere in Brooklyn, a deli owner is scratching his head over why a man who just won the majority has to grovel to hold onto it.
Firing Schumer Just Hands the Keys to the Socialists
Nobody on the Right should shed a tear for Chuck Schumer. He’s spent decades hauling the same big-government cargo, just in second gear.
But look closely at the people Schumer supposedly fought “tooth and nail.”
Schumer’s camp lined up behind Haley Stevens in the Michigan Senate primary. Abdul El-Sayed beat her, and he ran on Medicare for All. Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) wants Democrats to shove Medicare for All through Congress just to make President Trump veto it.
That’s the future Stewart says Schumer can’t grasp. Government-run health care means government-run waiting rooms. Canada’s Fraser Institute clocked the typical patient’s wait, from a family doctor’s referral to actual treatment, at 30 weeks in 2024. More than seven months of sitting by the phone.
Stewart wants to bulldoze seniority so the fresh faces can take the wheel. Those fresh faces want Washington running the doctor’s office.
He also told Democrats to steer clear of impeachment. “This moment is not, ‘oh, we get to impeach everybody,’ like **** that,” Stewart said, before urging them to actually govern.
But his own side isn’t listening. Representative Robert Garcia (D-CA), the top Democrat in line to run the House Oversight Committee, greeted the results with a two-word warning to Trump’s team: lawyer up. Democrats made similar no-impeachment noises in 2018 and impeached Trump twice anyway.
So the comedian gets half his wish list. The purge goes forward. The subpoenas probably do too.
Maybe Stewart sincerely believes a younger crew will win more elections. Maybe. But a party that settles its leadership fights through podcast clips and celebrity op-eds isn’t building anything new. It’s running the same old play with a different movie star calling it.
George Clooney’s op-ed ran on July 10, 2024. Joe Biden dropped out eleven days later, and not one Democrat primary voter ever got a say in who took his place.
