This story was an unspeakable tragedy.
It rocked the nation.
And a major Democrat just killed his wife in this shocking murder-suicide.
Former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax murdered his wife, Cerina, and then killed himself in a muder suicide.
Fairfax’s life fell apart while in office after the 2019 sexual assault allegations brought forth by a woman who claimed Fairfax assaulted her at the 2004 Democratic National Convention ended his political career and destroyed his financial situation.
The 47-year-old Democrat shot his Cerina multiple times before killing himself in the basement of their Annandale, Virginia home.
Their children were home at the time of the shooting, and their 16-year-old son called 9-1-1 after discovering his mother’s bullet-riddled and blood-soaked body.
“It is high-profile in nature, it’s tragic in nature. Certainly a fall from grace for a relatively high-profile family that seemingly had had a lot of things going in their favor,” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis told reporters.
“So, tragic for the children to lose both parents, extra tragic for them to actually be in the home when it occurred. So yeah, a lot is going on,” Davis added.
Fairfax became a raging alcoholic and deadbeat father — stealing money meant for his kids’ horseback riding lessons to buy a handgun in 2022, bombshell divorce documents obtained by The Post reveal.
Cerina divorced Fairfax and won custody of their children.
Court documents showed Fairfax drank heavily and lived in squalor after he left office in 2021.
“His drinking became so heavy that he would lock himself away in the family’s home office, where he lived in squalor among ’empty wine bottles, trash and piles of dirty laundry” — only emerging “long enough to get food or smoke cigarettes,” the New York Post reported the court documents allege.
“According to the documents, he repeatedly allowed the family’s mortgage to go into default and routinely dodged household bills,” the Post report went on to read.
The sexual misconduct allegations destroyed Fairfax’s professional life and dried up his income.
The Post reported that Fairfax’s “legal practice made more than $400,000 in 2023, only $11,000 in 2024, and had earned $0 for 2025.”
One source close to the situation told the Post that the collapse of Fairfax’s professional prospects was the final straw for Cerina.
“She had grown up very poor, and it was very important to her to have stable financial stability … and a good home for her children,” the source told the Post.
“And when… he couldn’t get clients, he couldn’t get work, I think that’s what started the downhill of the marriage itself,” the source added.
Fairfax murdered his wife and killed himself two weeks before a deadline a judge set for him to move out of the family’s home, and Cerina would take custody of the family’s children.
This is an unspeakable horror, and Fairfax’s act of evil robbed two children of their parents.
