Hollywood can’t hand out a charity award anymore without somebody turning the podium into a Trump-hating open mic.
This time a sitcom millionaire stood up at a Los Angeles gala for the sick and hungry and went somewhere even Hollywood rarely goes.
And what he called First Lady Melania Trump drew a White House answer he’ll be hearing about for years.
What Chuck Lorre Said From the Podium at Project Angel Food
Chuck Lorre built a fortune at CBS with The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, and Mom. Project Angel Food, a Los Angeles charity that feeds people who are seriously ill, handed him its Founders Angel Award at a recent gala.
TheWrap reported the charity has given that award only once before in its 37-year history. Fox News reported Lorre’s foundation earned it with what the charity called a “transformational” contribution.
So the man had a room full of goodwill and a microphone. He spent both on Donald Trump.
“The burden of my profession demands that I take this opportunity to say a few words about that bloated orange piece of s*** in the White House,” Lorre told the crowd, according to Breitbart News. The audience cheered, and Lorre answered, “Okay, I do have the right audience.”
He told the room he wakes up every morning and turns on CNN “to see if the President of the United States had a heart attack while straining to take a dump.”
Then came the First Lady. Lorre asked how a country could embrace “a smart, educated, warm, funny First Lady like Michelle Obama then somehow be okay with a surgically enhanced, cold-hearted Yugoslavian escort who clearly hates her husband.”
And he closed with his rewrite of the Serenity Prayer, asking God for “the courage to say Donald Trump is a Russian asset who traded teenagers with Jeffrey Epstein, and the wisdom to end on a cheap laugh.” Lorre offered no evidence for that accusation. He called it a cheap laugh himself.
The White House Answer Lorre Earned
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle responded in a statement to Fox News Digital.
“Chuck Lorre should immediately seek psychiatric help to treat his severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has completely rotted his peanut-sized brain,” Ingle said.
Fox News Digital reported it reached out to Lorre’s representatives and heard nothing back.
But the “escort” line deserves a second look, because that word has a history. A British tabloid, the Daily Mail, floated a version of the same smear about Melania Trump during the 2016 campaign. In 2017 the paper retracted it, apologized, and paid her damages.
Lorre writes for a living. He picks words on purpose. And he picked that one for a woman who came to New York in 1996, became an American citizen ten years later, and now funds college scholarships for kids aging out of foster care.
He said it at a charity dinner, of all places. The people Project Angel Food feeds got about two sentences of his attention.
Twenty Years of Trump Fixation and What It Bought CBS
Nobody should act surprised. TV Guide reported back in 2016 that Lorre had been taking digs at Trump in his end-credit “vanity cards” since 2006, when Trump hosted The Apprentice.
Days before the 2016 election, he used a card on The Big Bang Theory to tell viewers, “‘Make America great again’ is a bumper sticker for victimhood.” Voters ignored him.
Breitbart News noted that in 2019 Lorre claimed the President might have syphilis, or maybe brain damage from birth. A 2018 card called Trump “a fascist, hate-filled, fear-mongering, demagogic, truth-shattering, autocratic golf cheater” and fantasized about “a little Old Testament wrath” landing on him.
Read those in order and the temperature only goes one direction. First ratings jokes, then diseases, then wrath, and now a daily check to see whether the President died overnight.
And he told that joke about a man who took a gunman’s bullet to the ear in Butler, Pennsylvania in 2024 and survived more than one attempt on his life. Maybe that puts too much weight on one bad speech from one comedy writer. But a ballroom full of wealthy people cheered it, and that part is harder to wave off.
There’s a smaller line in the prayer that tells more than the profanity does. Lorre asked for the serenity to stop caring “about all the stupid people in this country.”
Those people number more than 77 million, going by Trump’s 2024 vote. A lot of them watched Two and a Half Men every week. They are the reason Chuck Lorre can afford a transformational gift to anybody.
That’s the bubble out-of-touch Hollywood elites live in. The audience pays for the mansion, and the man in the mansion calls the audience stupid from a stage in Los Angeles.
Lorre’s own network already ran this experiment. CBS ended The Late Show in May 2026 after Stephen Colbert spent years turning it into nightly left-wing propaganda, and the network called the move “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.”
Reuters reported, citing a person briefed on the matter, that the show was losing $40 million a year and that its ad revenue had dropped 40% since 2018. Jimmy Kimmel disputed the loss figure. But nobody disputes the Nielsen numbers Fox News cited, which showed Gutfeld! averaging 3.1 million viewers through July 2025 against Colbert’s 1.9 million.
Americans didn’t stop wanting to laugh at 11:30. They got tired of woke comics delivering a lecture where the punchline used to go.
Expect more of this as awards season rolls in. An industry that cheers a death joke at a charity dinner will find a way to top it at the next one, and the White House has made clear it won’t let the next one slide either.
Lorre asked God for the serenity to stop caring about the country that made him rich. A good chunk of that country quit caring what Hollywood thinks some time ago.
