Joe Biden’s open-border catastrophe didn’t just hit the big cities.
It reached small-town America and left residents dealing with the consequences.
Three illegal aliens Biden released into American communities are now sitting in ICE custody after an alleged theft spree that left locals stunned at how they got here in the first place.
What Happened in Weston
The Weston Walmart had already been hit hard. Flooding in late July 2026 submerged the store, and an outside contractor — JCSA Services — was brought in to help with cleanup and restoration.
That’s when the stealing started.
West Virginia State Police reviewed surveillance footage that showed someone breaking the glass on a secured jewelry display case while six people reached in and grabbed handfuls of merchandise. Fifty-two items were stolen. During the cleanup efforts, approximately $21,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from the secured jewelry display case.
Deivis Diaz, 23, and Daniel Ramirez, 27, were charged with grand larceny and conspiracy to commit a felony. Search warrants were then executed on Ramirez’s vehicle, which Diaz rode to work in, and one gold necklace chain was found alongside a Walmart price tag.
Oscar Jose Hernandez Silva is facing “petit larceny” allegations for a Sutton, West Virginia theft. Hernandez crossed illegally into the country in California in 2024, and he’s believed to have been in the country since then.
Three men. Two towns. One day. All of them in the country illegally.
Biden Let Them In — Then Walked Away
Diaz and Ramirez both came to the US illegally through the Texas southern border in 2024 and 2023, respectively, and then were “released” while then-Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was at the helm of DHS.
And Ramirez wasn’t just another catch-and-release case. Ramirez has had a federal “final order of removal” since December 2024. The Biden administration had a piece of paper telling them this man needed to go. They did nothing.
The department noted that Diaz has been previously arrested in Colorado for illegally having a concealed weapon and assault. So he had a prior record. He was still walking free in America, working a Walmart flood-cleanup job, allegedly breaking jewelry cases and stuffing his pockets.
DHS didn’t mince words when it finally commented. “These three criminal illegal aliens are all charged with larceny after two separate thefts on the same day in West Virginia,” a DHS Spokesperson said in a statement. “None of these illegal aliens would have been in our country if it weren’t for the reckless open-border policies of the Biden Administration, which RELEASED them all into our communities. Thanks to our state and local partners, these criminals are now in ICE custody and we will REMOVE them from our country,” the spokesperson continued.
A state police news release confirmed that all three individuals were determined to be in the United States unlawfully and were placed on ICE detainers, with ICE expected to initiate removal proceedings. All three men are currently in the Central Regional Jail.
The Policy That Made This Possible
None of this is an accident. It is the direct and foreseeable result of a deliberate policy choice made by Joe Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas from the first weeks of the administration.
Biden’s Department of Homeland Security, led by then-Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, released nearly 90 percent of migrants arriving at the southern border into the United States with parole at the program’s peak, according to a report from the Government Accountability Office, the independent agency that works on behalf of Congress.
Before Biden, that number looked completely different. According to the GAO, “OFO and Border Patrol granted relatively few paroles during fiscal years 2019 and 2020.” The watchdog found that during those years, parole was granted in roughly 3 percent to 28 percent of southwest border encounters. That changed sharply beginning in the summer of 2021. “The number of paroles granted increased beginning in the summer of 2021 and peaked in December 2022, when 89 percent of encounters resulted in parole,” the report stated.
And the problem didn’t end when Biden left office. The GAO report suggests that Biden and Mayorkas so overwhelmed the nation’s immigration enforcement system that ICE agents today are still struggling to locate parole migrants. “Without readily accessible information about noncitizens’ parole status, ICE does not have the information it needs to identify and monitor these noncitizens, or to take enforcement action, as appropriate,” the GAO report states.
That’s the inheritance. Millions of people released into the country with no reliable way to track them, deport them, or even find them when they reoffend.
West Virginia is one of the last places most people would expect to feel the weight of a broken southern border. It’s a small state, largely rural, with tight-knit communities that don’t make national news unless something goes badly wrong. And something went badly wrong here.
But the Weston Walmart case isn’t an isolated incident — it’s a window into what happens when the federal government decides that processing people out the door matters more than knowing where they end up. Ramirez had a removal order sitting in a file somewhere in Washington, DC. Diaz had a Colorado arrest record. The system knew about both of them. It just didn’t act.
The residents of Lewis County didn’t get a vote on any of this. They didn’t choose to have their flood-damaged Walmart turned into a crime scene by men who never should have been in the country. The Biden administration made that choice for them and then moved on.
ICE is now doing the cleanup — the same way Walmart’s contractor was supposed to clean up the flood damage before things went sideways. The difference is that at least ICE showed up.
Democrats who spent four years defending catch-and-release as a humane policy have never had to explain it to the people of Weston. They don’t hold town halls in Lewis County. They don’t answer for what their open-border policies cost ordinary Americans in places that don’t trend on social media.
And the same Biden loyalists who pushed this policy are already lobbying Democrat politicians to bring it back if they win back power in Washington, DC. Some of Biden’s key immigration agenda players are back lobbying elected Democrats to commit to reimposing such border policies if they win back Congress in the midterms and the White House in 2028.
That ought to tell voters everything they need to know about what a second chance for the Democrat open-border crowd would look like.
The men accused of stealing $21,000 in jewelry from a flood-ravaged store in a small West Virginia town are now in ICE custody. But the people who let them in — who signed off on the policies, who fought every attempt to enforce the law, who called border enforcement cruel and xenophobic — are still out there, still planning their comeback, and still counting on Americans to forget what four years of open borders actually looked like on the ground.
