Kamala Harris keeps trying to stay relevant heading into the 2026 midterms.
Some Democrats want nothing to do with her anywhere near their campaigns.
And one Kansas Democrat just delivered a blunt, on-camera warning she will not soon forget.
Hamilton Tells MS NOW To Keep Harris Out Of Kansas
Kansas Democratic Senate nominee Rev Adam Hamilton told MS NOW that former Vice President Kamala Harris should stay out of his campaign in Kansas after she traveled to Michigan to campaign for Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, as Hamilton works to win crossover support in the Republican-leaning state.
The interviewer asked him directly whether he would welcome Harris on the trail in Kansas.
Hamilton did not hedge. When asked directly whether he would welcome Harris to campaign alongside him in Kansas, Hamilton rejected the prospect, telling MS NOW, “No, I would not.”
He kept going. “No offense intended for her but she would not help to me. We are a different kind of Democrat … I mean no offense to Kamala Harris … Please do not come to my state. I do not need you here. You would actually hurt me,” Hamilton said.
That is about as clear a rejection as a sitting Senate nominee can give his own party’s most recent presidential candidate.
Hamilton runs the Church of Resurrection and identifies as a pastor first, politician second. Hamilton, the longtime pastor of the Church of Resurrection, won an 11-candidate Democratic primary in August and is challenging Republican Sen Roger Marshall, who is seeking a second term.
He has spent months trying to convince Kansas voters he is not a typical national Democrat. He has presented himself as an independent-minded Democrat who must appeal beyond his party’s base, and during a CNN appearance he said national Democratic figures could become liabilities in Kansas because of the state’s large Republican voter registration edge.
Republicans Say His Record Tells A Different Story
The Republican National Committee did not let the moment pass quietly.
The Republican National Committee responded to Hamilton’s remarks in a statement to Fox News Digital, accusing the Democratic nominee of attempting to distance himself from Harris despite what the committee characterized as similarities between their political records.
RNC spokesman Zach Kraft did not mince words. “From demonizing Christians to wanting to ban ranching in a Green New Deal, Adam Hamilton has been in lockstep with Kamala Harris’ radical left-wing agenda his entire life,” Kraft said.
He added a line clearly designed to sting. “Kansans will reject Hamilton just like they rejected his best friend Kamala Harris in 2024,” RNC spokesman Zach Kraft said.
A conservative outlet covering the same remarks noted that Hamilton preaches heavily on progressive causes from the pulpit. He’s a woke pastor of a megachurch who preaches about Black Lives Matter, the LGBTQ agenda, and environmentalism.
Hamilton is also not the only Democrat scrambling to put distance between himself and Harris this cycle.
During an interview with Politico, Rebecca Cooke, the Democratic challenger to Republican Rep Derrick Van Orden in western Wisconsin, turned down Harris’ support, explaining that she had received “9,000 more votes” than Harris in 2024.
A Pattern Democrats Cannot Talk Their Way Out Of
Hamilton wants Kansans to believe he is a new kind of Democrat.
He is not the first candidate this cycle to claim that label while quietly hoping voters do not check the record.
Self-described moderates and independent-minded Democrats have made this pitch for years, and it almost always turns out to be a marketing choice rather than an actual break from the party’s left-wing priorities on abortion, gun control, and government spending.
A pastor who preaches on Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ activism, and environmentalism from the pulpit of a megachurch is not exactly running from the Democrat Party’s cultural agenda.
He is running from the label attached to it in a state that rejected that agenda soundly in 2024.
Harris herself does not seem to be reading the room.
She chose to spend her time in Michigan campaigning for Abdul El-Sayed instead of quietly staying out of races where her presence clearly does more harm than good.
That decision alone tells voters something about how detached the former vice president remains from the political reality Democrats now face in red and purple states alike.
Kansas rejected Harris and Donald Trump decisively in 2024, and nothing about her record since losing that race has made her more appealing to the crossover voters Hamilton needs.
Democrats spent years insisting their party had moved past the coastal, lockdown-era, mandate-happy version of itself that alienated so many working-class and rural voters.
Hamilton’s own panic over Harris campaigning anywhere near him suggests plenty of Democrats privately know that rebrand never actually happened.
Voters in Kansas do not need a spokesman from Washington to tell them what a candidate believes.
They can look at the pulpit, the primary field he beat, and the national figures he is now begging to stay home, and draw their own conclusions.
