California Congressman Eric Swalwell helped lead the Russia collusion and January 6 impeachment hoaxes against President Trump.
But now all hell is breaking loose.
And that’s because Eric Swalwell is quitting Congress, and the timing couldn’t be more suspicious.
Swalwell used the reputation he built in the anti-Trump persecutions to launch a bid for Governor of California.
Because of the state’s blue tilt, Swalwell looked like the favorite to succeed Gavin Newsom.
Now, not only is Swalwell out of the race for Governor, he’s gone from Congress for good.
After the San Francisco Chronicle published an allegation from a former female staffer that Swalwell raped her in 2019 and 2024 after she was too drunk to consent to sex, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, and the California Teachers Union pulled their endorsement of Swalwell’s Gubernatorial campaign.
Shortly thereafter, Swalwell announced he was dropping out of the race for Governor.
There was still the matter of Swalwell’s tenure in Congress.
50 former staffers signed an open letter demanding Swalwell resign from Congress.
“The allegations reported by the San Francisco Chronicle and CNN are serious, credible, and demand accountability,” the letter read. “We stand unequivocally with our colleague, who showed extraordinary courage in coming forward to share her truth. We believe her.”
Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna planned to introduce an expulsion resolution to boot Swalwell from Congress.
Swalwell could read the writing on the wall and released a statement denying the allegations against him, but he resigned from Congress.
“I am deeply sorry to my family, staff, and constituents for the mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past. I will fight the serious, false allegation made against me. However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I made,” Swalwell’s statement read.
“I am aware of efforts to bring an immediate expulsion vote against other members and me. Expelling anyone in Congress without due process, within days of an allegation being made, is wrong. But it’s also wrong for my constituents to have me distracted from my duties,” the statement added.
“Therefore, I plan to resign my seat in Congress. I will work with my staff in the coming days to ensure they are able, in my absence, to serve the needs of the good people of the 14th congressional district,” Swalwell concluded.
This is a massive fall from grace.
Swalwell ran for President in 2020 and dropped out after failing to gain any traction with voters.
But the Gubernatorial campaign provided Swalwell a platform to build himself into a national figure for another presidential run in 2032 or 2026.
After this allegation and resignation, Swalwell will now only be considered a footnote in the long list of disgraced former members of Congress.
