John Fetterman couldn’t keep up the act forever.
But Fetterman found himself in a time for choosing.

John Fetterman’s day as presenting himself as a Trump-friendly moderate and reasonable Democrat is over.
Fetterman ripped the mask off in an interview wth CBS’s Major Garrett on his “The Takeout” podcast.
The Senate is currently set to debate the SAVE Act.
President Trump declared he wouldn’t sign any other bills until the Senate passes the SAVE Act, which mandates voter ID in all 50 states, requires proof of citizenship to register to vote, and bans mail-in voting.
Trump’s top legislative priority in 2026 is securing American elections.
The SAVE Act would eliminate election fraud.
John Fetterman showed that when it comes down to brass tacks, he will always side with the left.
Fetterman told Garrett that he opposes the SAVE Act because of its ban on mail-in voting.
“I don’t support [it] in its current state to vote Save America. And the president is constantly critical of mail-in voting, and that’s ridiculous,” Fetterman stated
Fetterman pointed to mail-in voting in red states like Florida and Ohio to claim fraud is nonexistent.
“It’s safe. Some of the best examples in the country are from red states like Ohio and Florida. And now I have a unique perspective on that too, as in 2019, as I was lieutenant governor, the Republicans in Pennsylvania pushed for mail-in voting,” Fetterman added.
But Ohio and Florida have signature and voter ID matching laws, and quickly count votes.
The SAVE Act is designed to prevent the widespread mail-in voting Americans saw in the 2020 Presidential Election, where Democrats accepted ballots after election day with little oversight.
Fetterman then tried to preserve his moderate credentials by claiming he would support the SAVE Act if it only contained voter ID provisions.
“So if the Republicans would ever just make it showing basic state ID to vote, hey, I’m not going to tell 83% of Americans that they’re wrong or that they are Jim Crow. And also the reason why the SAVE Act will never pass, because of the filibuster,” Fetterman continued.
The key to the SAVE Act is combining voter ID with bans on mail-in voting.

By opposing the SAVE Act to protect mass mail-in voting, Fetterman is showing that when push comes to shove, his moderation is all an act as he knows he’s up for re-election in Pennsylvania, a state President Trump won twice, in 2028.
Fetterman is copying the playbook of Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger, who campaigned as a moderate but once in office ended local law enforcement cooperating with ICE, a redistricting scheme to erase Republican Congressional seats, and gun grabs.
